LOCATION
Location
The municipality of Ospitaletto lies on the edge of the Franciacorta wine region, 10 kilometres north-west of Brescia and 11 kilometres south-south-east of Lake Iseo.
Today, the municipality has 14,711 residents (as of 31 December 2017).
Industry/region
The municipality of Ospitaletto is already home to a large number of industrial and commercial businesses. In 2020, Esselunga will begin operations at its production centre (Maxi polo produttivo), with plans for 900 new jobs, which signifies additional economic growth for the municipality.
Ospitaletto borders directly on the large city of Brescia. Brescia became famous for its ore mining – above all, iron ore – and the resulting industrial settlement. Even today, mechanical engineering and firearms production are the economic pillars of the region. Companies active in these fields are located on the periphery of the city. Italy’s largest and oldest firearms manufacturer, famously known under the name of Beretta, has been producing in the nearby Trompia valley since the sixteenth century.
The mines are now closed, but Brescia remains a centre of industry. The city and the surrounding area has more than 350,000 residents. Today, Brescia is the third-largest industrial city in Italy. The city itself has around 200,000 residents. Industry in the city attracts a lot of workers.
Transport
The A4 autostrada, from Turin to Trieste, and the new A35 autostrada, which connects Brescia to Milan, pass through the municipality.
The Strada Statale 11 Padana Superiore (SS 11) is one of the most important and longest national roads in northern Italy. The approximately 430-kilometre-long east-west transport axis connects Turin, Milan, Brescia, Verona and Venice.
Around five million vehicles use the Padana Superiore each year.
